Enable PCMCIA in linux

For my reference again. :P

For Suse 10.1
-------------
edit /boot/grub/menu.lst
and add this line "pci=assign-busses" without the "" next to "splash=verbose showopts"

For Fedora Core 5
-----------------
Edit the file /etc/pcmcia/config.opts and add the following code to the end of the file:

include port 0x3000-0x7fff, memory 0xe8100000-0xe97fffff

MSN Logon Server Problem

There is problem with MSN messanger today. Due to 11st Semtepber? another round of US attacked after a few years?

Anyway, basically the problem is really a simple one, and the fix too. After a couple of trial and errors I read someone posted their fix on Whirlpool forum. So here is it.

open C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts.

add the following 2 lines:
65.54.239.80 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.80 dp.msnmessenger.akadns.net

After that, the hosts file should looks like this

Don't forget to save it.

After that open MSN Messenger normally and it should work. If it is still not working, don't panic, sometimes Windows might have the old DNS entries cache, you can clear it by go to:
Start > run > cmd
type in "ipconfig /flushdns"

And then try again

Alternatively you can try to restart your computer before try again. Restart your computer should clear out your DNS cache too.

Basically, if the DNS entry is pointed to the correct MSN Temporary server it should work. You can verify it by:
Start > run > cmd
type in "ping messenger.hotmail.com"
If the ip address resolved as 65.54.239.80 then the hosts file is working correctly.

Iff.. IFf its is still not working, look around and make sure there is no Islam stranger around you.

[UPDATE] MSN Server was up at around 5am WST 12/09/2006
